What is the best way to thoroughly clean oil paints from my brushes?

turpentine works wellWhat is the best way to thoroughly clean oil paints from my brushes?
Mineral Spirits.

If you have good brushes made from

natural bristle or sable etc, go one step further

after you've removed the paint and use hair conditioner

and shampoo. I kid you not it's really reconditions

older brushes.

For dried on paint, soak in acetone (very flammable).

I soaked a small rag and the brush and then wrapped

them in aluminum foil. Reapplied acetone until the paint came out. Then shampoo/conditioner.What is the best way to thoroughly clean oil paints from my brushes?
turpentine, kerocin oil ,baby oil,
There is a product called brush reclaimer by Winsor %26amp; Newton. They work magic. It is a non-toxic, biodegradable solution you can use to clean or reclaim your brushes even they are already dried.

The solution can be used as many time until it lose its effect.

You dont need that much, as long as the bristles are submerged in the solution.
try using lacquer thinner but don't clean in near fire, it's highly combustible.
You can put the paint brush in a bowl or jug filled with tarpin oil or kerosen oil.
PETROL is the best, get a little quantity from your scooter and clean with it and see the result, how best it cleans!
There are several way you can clean your brushes however; none of those ways will thoroughly clean your brushes. There are a few steps you need to know to make your brushes last longer.

1. Application of paint to the brush:

Becareful how you load the paint to your brush. Do not load the paint to the bristol holder. This is very important, paint of any medium has a way of getting into the holder(';the metal piece that hold the bristol or hairs together, which is located between the handle and the bristols';) and if this happens cleaning your brushes becomes very difficult. The hues(color) from the previous job will find its way into the fresh hues(color) and change the color value of the applied paint. It happens when turpintine or thinner is mixed with the new paint. The turpintine moves upward into the bristols and loosens the old paint, which seeps into new paint and changes the original color value of the new applied paint.

2. The first step to cleaning brushes use fresh turpintine. Do not use the turpintine you used while painting because it still have mixed sediments from the other paints you used. Dirty turpintine will carry those dirty particles into the holder. The clean Turpintine will loosen those particles and perpare your cleaning for the next step.

3. Use soap and warm water(* I prefer to use hot water for as much as I can stand it. Hot water seem to penetrate the oils faster*). Get a bar of Ivory, Dial for harder bristols, Dove or any soft soaps for softer bristols. Use the painting stroke under the water on to the bar of soap just like you would use that stroke when you paint. Make sure you clean all visible pigments from your brushes.

4. Once your brushes are cleaned, clean the bar of soap for the final application. This application will seal and protect your brushes. Your cleaned brushes should be wet. Simply with one stroke paint across the bar of soap on both sides of the brush. If you are cleaning a round bristol or sable, turn the brush over the bar of soap to make a point at the tip.

By doing this it will seal any excess oils from going into holder, protect it from dust and saves the form of the bristles.

To paint again simply flick the brush tip and watch the particles, soap, and old oils leave the brush.

This process maybe long but it will help make your brushes last longer and stay firmer.

If it is dried on you will have to use a paint remover, otherwise you can use mineral spirits or acetone.
first you soak the brush into thinner for a day or paint remover like turpentine, then deep the brush into warm water for 30minutes after that wash brush with detergent and water...
wash with kerosene
I use Turpentine successfully.
u can use any of them.....it is in descending order..

1. turpentine oil

2. oil paint remover

3. spirit or nail polish remover

4. kerosene oil...
