Oil paint help?

I've painted with oil paint before, but I was told what I needed to buy, now that I'm on my own, I'm not sure what I need...

I'm looking at Winton oil paint, there are 5 different kinds of paint for each color. for example, Cadmium yellow light, Cadmium yellow pale hue, Cadmium yellow medium, Cadmium yellow hue, and Cadmium yellow deep hue.

What are the differences?Oil paint help?
The difference is that some are opaque and the other is transparent.

There is a wonderful website with more info on this subject

My husband is a professional artist so he always has good resources

Hope that helps.....Oil paint help?
Get the darkest and mid lightest for every hue, then get Bob Ross Liquid White 236 ml (8 oz) which can be found at Micheal's arts and crafts store and if your lucky to find it at your local art store. This item says that it is a base medium, but I'm an artist that don't fallow instructions; I use it for the base color, background, foreground and mid ground, well I like to experiment. But you can gain a variety of light from a dark hue by using this medium which is white. Be sure to mix this oil base medium before getting it into action for best results. It will define your colors to a rich and bright hue, It is also a great medium to blend colors with. Keep in mind to be extra care full when handling the painting after the medium has been applied, due to it's liquid oil base.Just like oil it takes a while to fully dry. Don't be afraid to experiment with paint thinner and the medium.
'blasse' is right different hues of the same color, chose which one or two best serves your needs.

but i do have one suggestion, upgrade to artist grade paints, student grade are so cut with filler, that you are not getting the bang for your buck. remember cadmiums are pricey and the best red and yellow out there, so you should pay a bit extra for more pigment and less fillers. you should do this with all your paints.

and remember cadmiums are beautiful and the best, but they do cause cancer, so wear rubber gloves, and don't eat the paint.
Cad. yellow medium is a ';warm'; yellow which tends to a little orange-y. Cad. yellow light is a ';cooler'; yellow which tends to greenish and is lighter than the Cad. Yellow medium. Cad. yellow dark is also ';warm';, a little orangey and darker than medium. ';Hues'; use synthetics to make the color and are usually of not as good a quality or intensity as the real thing. ';Winton'; is a student grade version of ';Winsor%26amp;Newton'; paint and has more oil. filler and junk than the ';Winsor%26amp;Newton'; paint which is more expensive, but well worth the price. Your work is only as good as your tools.
I have not painted in a while but when I did i would stick to primary colours and blend my own shades. A lot cheaper than buying sixty different paints.
the hue is different For instance some yellow looks like a sunset yellow and some like bright daisy yellow. all depends on the look you want in the end.

get a chart and match it up to what you want your painting to look like. Alternatively the great thing about oils is the ability to mix them into different hues too.

I'm getting back into it too so am not huge help right now.
Save yourself some time and perhaps some money by not buying a color you don't need. Buying the set of oil paints is a better alternative. The only time i buy a tube of any one color, it is usually the color i use the most of. One other thing, there are other less expensive brands of paints besides Winton that are just as good, so shop around.
The difference is in the brightness or intensity of the yellow hue. You can look at a color chart at the art store for Winston oil paints and deside which one you would like to use. Anything that says hue means that it doesn't really have any cadmium but is the color equivalent of a cadmium paint and is a lot less expensive. If you don't have a lot of money to spend on paint I think you should go for the cadmium yellow hue instead of the cadmium yellow. You can always make it darker of lighter by mixing it with other colors. You can make it brighter by adding a very small amount of cadmium red or cadmium red hue. Adding white will make in lighter in color and also less bright. A very tiny amount of blue, let's say colbalt blue, will make it darker. Art stores always have a color chart for each manufacturer whose paint they sell. The color chart will also let you know how transparent the paint is. It could be opaque, semi-transparent or transparent. It's a good idea for you to make use of these charts.
