Oil paint on moddeling clay?

I made something out of modelling clay and would like to paint it.... is oil paint alright to use on this or does it have to be acryllic or what??Oil paint on moddeling clay?
Oil based paint will **not** work. Acrylic paint would be best in this situation.

Oil paint is basically heavy metals, marble dust and linseed oil. The combination creates the perception of color when mixed with light that we see. But because of the linseed oil, it will not work with the modeling clay as most modeling clay is polymer based.

Acrylic paint is pigment (here again usually different chemicals and metals) polymer resin and water. Because the polymer resin is similar to the polymer in the clay, it will simply work better with the surface and it won't take nearly as long to dry as all that needs to happen is the water evaporates as the resin hardens.Oil paint on moddeling clay?
I would not recommend painting modeling clay with oil paint. Oil paints are slower drying for one thing... IF possible, use clay that will harden. Arcrylic paint works on most surfaces, drys quickly, and can be gotten inexpensively in colors to mix or in your colors of choice in the form of craft paint (also inexpensive). You can find arcrylic paints and arcrylic craft paints at lots of places (Wal-Mart, Michael's, Benjamin Franklin, and other stores). Water colors will not work. Spray paint (I'd pick latex) is an option if you want a flat shade and not detail. Keep in mind that if your clay is non-hardening, it could still be reshaped by accident. You might consider sculpee (paintable with arcrylics) or another hardening clay. Crayola has a hardening clay, and there are some that you bake. Just don't bake any that don't recommend baking. Also, arcrylic paints can stain your clothes, carpet, etc. Sometimes rinsing a stained garment immediately helps, but assume than any fabric will be easily stained by oil or arcrylic or craft paint. I hope that helps. And by the way, you can be forgiven.
Use acrylic paint,not oil.
