I've got reeves oil colour set and painted some stuff on canvas. I'm waiting for the first layer to dry, how long would it take? How long do oil paints dry?
Depends, if you used linseed oil, it will take more than a week to fully dry.... And if you didn't, it should be less than that. But also, it depends if you used it thinly or thickly. How long do oil paints dry?
It really depends on the brand of oil paints, and whether or not they're water-soluable. Normal oil paints, which you use a special thinning fluid for, can sometimes take weeks, even months to completely dry. I know, it kinda sucks.. But if you're waiting for a relatively thin layer to dry, then it should only be about a week or two. I've had past experience working with oil paints before, I took an oil painting class at the local community college. Good luck! Hope your painting turns out nice! :)
I also paint with Reeves although not exclusively. I apply my paints in really thin coats and it usually takes about three to five days before i attempt each additional layer. Make sure you observe the ''fat over lean'' rule of layering paint. I don't wait for the paint to completely dry, just dry enough so that the underlying paint is not disturbed. My work can be checked out at hellosanantonio.com under artist name GUERRO1.

depends on thickness. usually dry to the touch after 48 hrs...but not completely cured for 6months to a year...which is how long you should wait to varnish
