oils AND acrylics in the SAME brush? oy oy oy veh my child...How can i clean my paintbrushes after using oil paints %26amp; acryllics?
well for oils u gotta use turpenoid (odorless turpentine) and acrylics soap and water. an alternitave to hazordous solevents is water soluble oils. these oil thin and clean up with water. the best brand to buy is winsor %26amp; newton artisan. they are the least expensive (still good quallity) and they have mediums made just for those oils
Oil paints White Spirit,Acrylic bit of soap and water..Can always wash Oil used paint brushes AFTER cleaning with White Spirit to get them really clean..
I use acrylics. To clean my brushes, I just fill a paper cup with soapy water, or just water, and spin the brush around in the water. Well, maybe that's not the correct wording, but it would be easier to show you, what I do. As for the pallette, you don't have to clean it.
White spirit. You can buy it in art shops, DIY shops etc.
With oil you can't use water as they don't mix but you can use several products to dissolve the paint such as white spirit which you can buy in DIY shops and is quite cheap. Professionals with expensive paintbrushes tend to use turpentine though which is much more expensive and available from art shops but presumably better. Turps (as it is known) can also be used if you need to dissolve paint in a painting. For example, when you are painting a sunset, if you want the colours to wash into each other, you can brush strips of colour across the canvas and then with a cloth dabbed in turps wipe the canvas and you will create a great effect!
For oils: I use dish washing soap and paint with it in the sink until it runs clean occasionally running it under water. I clean them every few days or even longer in between if I seal them in my plastic palate case(airtight).
For acrylics just water. They require immediate cleaning.
For both: After cleaning the paint I use one of two types of brush cleaner/conditioners.
I'll clean my brushes, using turpentine (mineral spirit), kerosene, gasoline, then I further clean using shampoo, then rinse, and finally massage conditioner into the fibre.
Been doing it this way for 3 decades. Still have my original brushes, still use them.
My works can be seen at: morrisartworks.com
I don't see buying into some hokas pokas elixir is going to do me any favors.
I treat my brush hair, the same as I treat the hair on my head.
Oils or Acrylics all the same to me.
Do not put them into you mouth to bring the point back.
Before you buy the brush, it has been irradiated.
The pigments you use build up in the human body and are not seen as foreign objects and do not flush out.
Bring the point back with a quick whip action, then straighten up with your index finger and thumb.
Leave the conditioner in it, you can wash it out before use each time.
Don't be lazy.
Hope this helps.
oil based brushes clean in white spirit / turps acryllics in warm soapy water
I clean it with warm water, then I use white spirits. Gets it right out!!!
Buy a paraffin .Dip your paint brushes in it.Within 5 minutes the paint will be gone. After removing the brush in a paint take a washing powder and warm water,Put them in a container, wash the brushes to remove the smell of a parrafin.
all the advise given is OK, but if the paint (oil or acrylic) dries, then the paintbrush become unusable, unless you wash it with brush cleaner and preserver (bought in art shops).
Its hard to clean them properly, but whenever i use oil paint i clean them with Terps (Turpentine)
